The Art of Archival Paper: Why 300 GSM Cotton Rag Outlives Canvas

"Explore how 100% combed cotton cellulose and calcium-buffered sizing preserve pigment saturation across generations without yellowing."

# The Art of Archival Paper: Why 300 GSM Cotton Rag Outlives Canvas When you hold a museum-grade print in your hands, the texture communicates what pixels never can. At Aurall, we rejected standard synthetic gloss and flimsy commercial papers from day one. ### The Problem With Commercial Wall Art Most posters sold online are printed on 180-220 GSM wood-pulp paper with solvent dyes. Within 18 months under natural daylight, UV rays break down synthetic binders, causing colors to drift and paper fibers to become brittle and yellow. ### The 100% Cotton Rag Standard Archival paper used by the Louvre and the Tate Modern is manufactured from combed cotton linters. Cotton fibers are naturally acid-free and pH-buffered with calcium carbonate. 1. **Fiber Strength**: Cotton rag fibers are three times longer than wood cellulose, resisting humidity fluctuations and thermal expansion. 2. **Pigment Absorption**: Archival 12-color pigment particles seat deeply within the fiber interstices rather than resting as a plastic skin on top. 3. **True Matte Texture**: Zero glare even when placed directly opposite sunlit windows.
